Sierra Springs (SS-2)
The Sierra Springs (SS-2) Project is one of two wildfire fuels reduction projects currently funded through a grant from the Stevens Authority. The project focuses on creating fuel breaks in order to protect life and property, which will help to increase fire resiliency in forest ecosystems and fire adapted communities. Work is currently in the planning phase, with a Request for Proposals (RFP) set to be posted for bids in spring 2021. The land will be treated using a combination of mastication and hand-thinning methods, and work is performed at no cost to the landowner. Landowners whose properties fall within the desired treatment area have been sent a Right of Entry (ROE) agreement from the Resource Conservation Districts, which must be signed and returned in order for each property to be included. Community participation in the project is both voluntary and essential to the project’s success.
