Fire Adaptations

Trees have many adaptations that make them resistant and resilient to fire. Some have thick bark that keeps stems away from high heat. A lot of trees have self pruning branches that reduce the chance of a subsurface fire reaching the canopy. Others have serotinous cones, this trait protects seeds during a fire and allow seeds to germinate after the fire. These are just a few ways that trees have adapted to the impacts of fire.
